Dog at Dusk

I walk my dogs twice a day. Most days we go down to the Hudson River, Muhheakunnuk, the River that Flows both Ways. With every walk we take the river shows a different quality. Sometimes it’s still and glassy like a lake on a calm day, sometimes the Atlantic comes storming up, showing the river to be the tidal estuary that it is. There’s always a draw and a magic to being near the river, and at dusk when the glow of the setting sun hits the water and illuminates the clouds, well, that’s when awe sets in. The dogs, however, seem oblivious.
