What color is the sky? Depends on the day and where you’re asking. This painting is based on a photo I took a year ago December in Mexico, on the Pacific coast, where I was attending an art workshop. I can’t approach the vividness of that color with my paint. And the water? No way can I get it right. But the sun beating down, the heat, the vividness of it all, that’s what I was really after anyway. The captain was a wise man to wear a cap, a neck gaiter and an SPF 50 long sleeve shirt.
