Scrolling through the memory lane of travels I’ve taken, I found a photo of a man on horseback, taken on a trip to San Miguel Allende, Mexico over a decade ago. Why did I take that photo? I liked the power of the animal, the sun glistening on the horse’s flank, the bright blue of the man’s shirt. This was a fun and juicy image to paint, and it proved to be a distraction from the world at large.
